Charlie Smith’s Waking Bird Dog

In the summer of 2018, I helped interactive sculpture artist Charlie Smith bring his Burning Man honoraria grant project, the flaming jackal-headed rooster, to life. I helped cut, shape, and weld metal into place over the course of three months of weekends. The project was a 30 foot tall wood-burning sculpture that shot flames out of its mouth, and sat on a rocking base, so folks could jump up and down on it to make it move. The sculpture has continued to travel around to art festivals throughout the United States.
